Located in the center of the vibrant Fremont Street Experience in downtown Las Vegas, The D Las Vegas Hotel & Casino offers a unique and nostalgic charm that sets it apart from the glitz and glamour of the Las Vegas Strip. Here’s everything you need to know about this iconic destination:

    History and Location

The D Las Vegas, formerly known as Fitzgerald’s, has a rich history that dates back to its opening in 1980 as the Sundance Casino. It was later acquired by Derrick and Greg Stevens, the owners of Golden Gate Hotel and Casino. The property underwent extensive remodeling, with a modern theme in the downstairs casino and a more historic ambiance on the second floor.

Downtown Las Vegas, also known as Old Vegas, is where the city’s hotel casinos were first developed in the early 1900s. It offers a quieter and more low-key atmosphere compared to the bustling Las Vegas Strip. The vintage casino games, nostalgic dining options, and affordable rates make it a popular choice for budget-oriented travelers and those seeking a more traditional Vegas experience.

    Hotel and Casino

The D Las Vegas doesn’t have a formal lobby like many other hotels in the city. Guests enter through the casino, where the check-in desk is conveniently located amidst the slot machines. The typical guests at The D are slightly older than the Strip crowd, and the property is not particularly geared toward families. Travelers with children may prefer the nearby Golden Nugget, which offers a large pool with a water slide to keep the little ones entertained.

    Fremont Street Experience

The D Las Vegas benefits from its prime location between East Carson Avenue and Fremont Street, offering direct access to downtown’s touristy pedestrian artery. Fremont Street is known for its kitschy charm, with roaming magicians, street performers, and an array of characters. At night, the Fremont Street Experience takes place beneath the massive LED canopy, creating a multisensory extravaganza for visitors to enjoy.

    Guest Rooms

Rooms at The D feature contemporary wooden furniture, dark patterned carpets, and bold decor in black and red hues. The bright red accent walls and bed runners add a touch of dramatic flair, while stock image artwork of red dice and playing cards create a sense of Vegas-style fun. The rooms are well-appointed, with dressers, desks, flat-screen TVs, and spacious closets equipped with electronic safes. However, coffee makers are not provided in the rooms, and certain amenities are only available in upper-level suites. The sleek bathrooms offer plenty of counter space and large walk-in showers.

    Dining Options

The D Las Vegas boasts three on-site restaurants that cater to various tastes. D Grill, Andiamo Steakhouse, and American Coney Island offer a range of dining experiences. Andiamo Steakhouse, a clubby upscale steakhouse, is a favorite among both guests and non-guests. American Coney Island, a beloved Detroit hot dog joint, serves its famous Coney dogs 24/7. Long Bar, located downstairs, is a popular spot to catch sporting events on huge televisions.

    Casino and Amenities

The D Las Vegas features a multi-level casino that houses the world’s largest Keno board and a selection of vintage games. While it may not have the same glamour as the casinos on the Strip, its charm lies in the vintage slot machines and table games found on the second floor. The D is also known for its unique Keno game, a hybrid of bingo and lottery, which attracts many visitors.

The hotel charges a daily resort fee, like most hotels in Las Vegas, which covers extras such as parking, Wi-Fi access, and use of the small fitness center. The property also offers a small outdoor pool for guests to relax and unwind.

Whether you’re drawn to the vintage casino games, the lively atmosphere of Fremont Street, or the nostalgic charm of downtown Las Vegas, The D Las Vegas Hotel & Casino offers an authentic Vegas experience that is sure to leave a lasting impression.
